About

Hello, beautiful visitor! Welcome to my portfolio. I assume you're checking out this page to find out a little more about me, so here are a few fun facts…

I'm Julia! I'm 28 & I'm from the lovely city of Appleton, Wisconsin. I graduated from Appleton North in 2008 and from UW-Madison in 2012. I truly identify as a "Sconnie" through-and-through…I love the Badgers, Packers & Brewers; I love cheese (not a day goes by that I don't eat it in some capacity), beer (Spotted Cow & Blue Moon being my personal faves) & greasy burgers (Light ketchup. Extra cheese). In my spare time you can find me going to concerts (it's my #1 addiction), thrifting (I'm a bit of a pro), riding my bike around Madison (during the rare time of year that it's above freezing), watching Netflix (95% of the time it's The Office), playing the piano (20 years of experience under this belt), or out socializing with friends & family (or at least just bugging people to hang out with me).

I currently work for UW Athletic Communications. I absolutely loved every minute of my experience as a student so, as you can imagine, I feel extremely honored to have been hired by the University right out of school. I always knew I wanted to do something creative for a career, so to be able to put together two of my passions (art & the Badgers) and call it a job…well, that's a very special thing to me.

Here are some quick stats about my current job, as well as some of the things I've done in the past. If you're interested in seeing a complete version of my resume and portfolio, please feel free to contact me.

Education
University of Wisconsin – Madison, August 2008 – May 2012
Bachelor of Science – Art with focus in graphic design

Experience

University of Wisconsin / Wisconsin Athletics
Athletic Communications Assistant
June 2012 – present
I was hired to mainly design and edit Varsity, the official digital magazine of Wisconsin Athletics. I'm given articles & other content on a weekly basis which I lay out & then upload the finished product to the website. And guess what – the magazine's FREE, so check it out here:

Besides Varsity, I also work on a vast variety of projects for the Athletic Communications department. I create social media graphics (like cover photos, profile pictures, pre- and postgame graphics and many other images commemorating the Badgers' achievements) for our many team accounts, as well as graphics for UWBadgers.com. I've also helped in designing sites like supportthebadgers.org and uwcamps.com. I help out with game programs, the annual report, other printed items, and basically any miscellaneous project that pops into my coworkers' minds. I work closely with my teammates to make our visions a reality.

The Wisconsin Union
Graphic Designer
October 2011 – May 2012
At this job I designed and produced a wide variety of materials, such as posters, brochures, postcards, menus, and banners, all of which were used by the two student unions as well as many other university organizations. I was always working on multiple projects at once and I became very capable of complying with strict and often short deadlines. I worked with my teammates to create cohesive design campaigns and provide fast, efficient service to customers.

University Housing Dining & Culinary Services
Associate
August 2008 – May 2012
It may not have been on the specific career path I am looking for, but I gained indispensable experience working for Housing for the entirety of my college career. I learned great time management skills (especially while working two jobs) and I became very good at working with a large team to make business run smoothly while providing fast, friendly customer service.
